2018 was a year of accent walls for me…and I sure made a lot of mistakes and learned a lot. Here’s the good, the bad, and the ugly.
GOOD: You can make a huge impact for a small budget.
BAD: The prep work and planning takes 4 times as long as the actual process!
UGLY: Having textured walls makes this SO much more difficult. And skim coating to remove texture is MESSSSSY with dust on every thing and every body part. .
I also learned the differences between working with mdf, pine, and fingerjoint pine boards…as well as putting up backer boards vs skim coating. I learned that when in doubt, you caulk the seems…
.
Mainly, I LEARNED. I made mistakes. Lots of them. And figured it out. And that’s what is so satisfying about DIY, always learning.

  11. How far back did you use plastic sheets in your room when you sprayed the paint to avoid getting paint on anything?

I have lots of feature walls planned for this year!

  13. @angelarosehome currently, I am having PTSD from dust post new hardwood and brick floors, so I would say yes to backer board for wallpaper. I have personally never done it though. I’m also a fan of being able to change it up easily and often and bb would help with that too. Just my opinion…

  14. @decorbytwo I love it!

  15. @jessica.kesa Since my rooms have doors that I can close off, I just close the door, and then covered all the furniture!
