As the weather gets cooler, many of us love to fill our homes with the smell of fall. 🥧🍂🍎

Often candles are a top choice, but I’m also seeing that wax melts are becoming more and more popular, so I think it’s smart to go ahead and review why these aren’t always a safer option… ▪️
Although candle companies in the US should be utilizing a cotton wick, many have been found to have a lead core. When the wick is then burned, it releases up to 5 times the amount of lead considered hazardous for children and exceeds EPA pollution standards for OUTDOOR air – yet we’re burning these in our homes with closed windows 😳
▪️
🤔But is it really safer to simply use wax melts instead? Most companies are using paraffin wax for the candles and wax melts. Paraffin is a petroleum byproduct and when burned it releases two highly toxic chemicals: benzene and toluene.
▪️
Both are known carcinogens and even if you ditch the wick, these chemicals are still released into the air when the wax melts.
▪️
In addition to the above mentioned chemicals being released through the melting or burning of paraffin, we have to consider the use of fragrance and dyes in these products. I’ve covered this topic extensively, but fragrance (even “natural” fragrance) can cause loads of problems for our bodies including respiratory and hormonal issues.

What are the safe options?

Here’s my alternative…. 🙂DIY wax melts using beeswax and young living seed to seal essential oil blends.

Here’s to a safe and healthy fall season, my friends! 🍂🍁☕
