BASEMENT PROGRESS!! Here’s another “before and after” of the polished concrete floor we finished in our basement. This pic shows half of the main hallway down here and we have such a fun, unique idea for the design of this area!! It might sound weird but I’m seriously more excited for this hallway than I am for the entire rest of the basement we’re finishing! — When we were polishing the floor we had the option to do the heavy grind for longer (or even go with a heavier level of grind than we did) to buff out all the imperfections in the floor but we decided to leave them because we liked the distressed-but-smooth look it gave and it matched the industrial vibe we were going for. This floor is heated and we thermally isolated the slab from our walls so even when the floor heating is off, our slab is never “cold”. It’s kind of cool-ish, but definitely not cold (even in the middle of winter) which really help keep our basement a pleasant temperature without an insane amount of heating or cooling! Once complete, our basement will have a home theater, basement bar, game room, home gym, this fun hallway, a bathroom, foyer, spare room, and lots of storage. And I’ll share our whole journey as we finish it ourselves over the next several months! (Cat cameos by Mocha and Matcha)
