We call it the dining room wall, but really we tore down the dining room wall, fixed the sagging supporting wall by sistering in a new i-beam, and then reinforced the remaining studs with plywood to keep it all from twisting out of place as it holds up the attic a foot off from the basement supporting wall beneath it. I don’t know much about house building, but so far I’ve learned where not to place a supporting wall, how to fake level floors, and what happens to drywall when you have to raise the right side of your house …

It can be difficult to find holiday themed activities that go with your current content and are grade level appropriate, but I feel like this writing activity can be used in so many ways! My students will be using their knowledge of figurative language to write a story about a turkey using the 4 types of figurative language we learn in 5th.
